What does following mean?
Start following people whom you work with or want to receive updates from. This means you'll get their updates in your dashboard and have them available in your network when you want to send private tracks. The person who you follow doesn't have to follow you back for you to receive their public updates.

What is a timed comment and how is it different to a regular comment?
When you’re checking out a song on SoundCloud, you’ll have a visual representation of the music (a waveform). By placing a comment directly on the waveform, it allows you to say something about the structure of the track. Let’s say you like the track that’s playing, but you feel the extra rhodes lick that kicks in 2’33 is out of tune. You can then place a comment on that moment that reads something like : « the song is great, but that rhodes is way out of tune ! ». This feature is really handy when you’re working with other people that live far away from you : they can have access to your track and tell you which modifications need to be done at what moment …
-
What formats can I upload?
SoundCloud supports Mp3’s in any bitrate, 16 bit, 24 bit & 32 bit wav/aiff files in just about any samplerate, Flac, Ogg and more.
-
How can I send my track to somebody who isn't on SoundCloud?
When uploading a private track you can choose to share it to people in your network or share it directly to people via their email address. You can also use the email option to paste a whole list of email addresses that you'd like to send your track to.
-
How do the sharing levels (public and private) work?
When you upload a track to SoundCloud, you can decide how you’d like to share it with other users. If you choose "Public", it means everyone who is logged in the site can have access to your track.
If you choose "Private", only the people you add to the track will have access.
-
Can people download my tracks?
Not unless you check the extra "Downloadable?" check box on the upload page. Tracks are by default not downloadable unless you explicitly say they should be.
-
Does SoundCloud apply bit-rate compression when I upload tracks ?
In order for users to hear music rapidly on the SC platform, we re-encode every track to high quality 128 kbps Mp3s. However, if you make your file « downloadable », then the users who have access to it will be able to download the original file (whether it’s Aiff, Wav or Mp3).
-
How can I reorder my tracks?
You can use the "sets" feature for that. It allows you to group tracks (like albums) and reorder them how you'd like to.
-
How many tracks can I upload to SoundCloud?
As many as you want!
-
I love SoundCloud and want to help you promote it!
Well, that’s great! Send us an email to love@soundcloud.com and we’ll give you some work ;-)
-
What things actually end up in my dashboard?
You’ll receive dashboard items about things the people you are following do and also about activity on your own tracks. It’s a good way to learn which track your collaborator, favorite producer or label is diggin’ at the moment and also lets you check the track out directly (through the dashboard play buttons).
-
Can I "save" tracks to a specific place? So i can find them again?
You can easily build a playlist with your favourite tracks by using the « add as a favourite » function.
-
I'm getting too many/few emails from SoundCloud, what can I do?
Go to the «Settings» page and you’ll be able to set your notification preferences. You can choose exactly which type of events you wish to be notified about and how often. There's also the possibility to receive a "digest" e-mail (daily, weekly or monthly) that condenses all the notifications into a single email.
-
How do I remove people from my network?
Go the the persons profile page and click on "Stop following" in the sidebar menu. The person WILL NOT be notified that you aren't following them any longer.
-
I really like this site, can I have a few invites for my friends?
As you set up your profile, you receive a few invitations that you can share with friends and fellow musicians. Just head over to the "Invite friends" page and invite people through an e-mail or by sending them a personal invite link. If you would like more invitations, email us at invites@soundcloud.com and we’ll try to hook you up.
-
Does SoundCloud claim any rights to my music?
