Isabella Lovestory began embracing her freedom as a youth, so it’s only natural that it influenced her music. Her family wasn’t fully supportive when she first started making music, but she kept at it and it’s worked out for her. Lovestory, who was born in Honduras and resides in Vancouver, is making waves through her experimental, reggaeton-influenced pop.
Her Mariposa EP currently has over 100,000 streams on SoundCloud, and she’s looking to accomplish more now that she’s featured as one of nine First on SoundCloud artists who are on the rise.

Isabella Lovestory is taking her relationship with the platform to another level by taking us through her hometown in her First on Soundcloud Docuseries.
She returns to Puerto Cortes, Honduras, where she was born. Seated in front of the house where she lived as a small child, she recalls feeling the freedom that has come to define her music.

“My childhood in Honduras was just really free… I think that inspired me to prioritize freedom above everything else.

Lovestory is from a family of music lovers: her grandmother ran the first—and only—record shop in Puerto Cortes, and Lovestory’s first memory of music is The Smiths because her mother was a huge fan. Filming in Honduras was important to Lovestory, because aside from it being an essential part of her backstory, it influenced her music heavily.

“I think Honduras has inspired me musically…It’s a very warm, hot, lush, and crazy country. It’s definitely ingrained in my brain.”
The episode shows Lovestory at the beach, asking a group of children what they want to be when they grow up. She’s delighted when one of them says they want to be an artist, and she wants to serve as an example for other children in Honduras who have similar ambitions.

“I never had—especially a woman—doing the sort of thing I’m doing when I was little,” she says. “So I think it’s very important that I represent my country and show people that if I can do it, you can do it.” Isabella Lovestory is not an alter ego, it’s the purest expression of who she is because it’s who she wanted to be growing up.
