Raised in the underground of Calgary, Mitch Vavra’s journey into electronic music began as many great ones do, standing in front of a pair of turntables and realizing the dance floor could be a form of storytelling.
Performing under the alias Mixol, Vavra quickly moved from curious selector to dedicated craftsman, eventually studying production and audio engineering in San Francisco. The experience sharpened both his technical precision and artistic identity, shaping a sound rooted in groove, analogue textures, and emotive melodic energy.
Influenced by the early BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix era and artists pushing the boundaries of electronic music including Mylo, Erick Morillo, Tiesto, and Eric Prydz, Mitch developed a style built on tension, atmosphere, and movement - music designed not just to be heard, but felt on a crowded dance floor.
Over the years he has performed across Canada and the United States, sharing lineups with respected names in the global underground including Omid 16B, Mr. C, J.Phlip, Satoshi Tomiie, Jody Wisternoff, and Le Youth, while steadily refining a sound that bridges deep, melodic, and driving house.
Channeling treasured dance floor moments and memories into his productions, Vavra’s releases on Emerald & Doreen and Emengy Deep showcase a blend of intricate synth work, modern groove, and cinematic progression - music aimed at late-night rooms and festival sunsets alike.
Whether behind the decks or in the studio, Mixol continues to focus on one thing: creating moments that connect people through rhythm, emotion, and the shared pulse of the dance floor.
