Anthony Dorion
Asheville
Montreal native Asheville based producer/engineer and bassist, owner of Good Flow Recording in Erwin Tennessee. This page is for archiving ideas, demos, and live recordings that are important to me. My catalogue is diverse and I don’t know how to pitch it, so I’m just gonna drop a bunch of names below along with some adjectives to help you decide if you want to look them up or hit me up.
Studio and touring bassist for dozens of original projects over the years, including the Syracuse jam bands Count Blastula and Plainman Brown, a roster of Asheville area experimental/ambient improv ensembles such as the Seraphim Arkistra, Space Medicine, the Mystic Ferrymen, and myriad genre-spanning collaborations as the other half of a duo with hammered dulcimer visionary Mary Sparks. Large body of work with theremin-led space rock band Silver Machine comprising 7 album releases, numerous television/radio appearances, national tours and co-bills with acts such as Boombox, the Disco Biscuits, J-Wail, the Mantras, numerous short film and soundtrack contributions including a complete re-scoring of the 2012 re-release of George Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead,” which saw significant international distribution and a limited but annually recurring October theatrical release. Other credits as a bassist include jazz fusion quartet Wayfarers All, rock n roll power trio Andrew Thelston Band, indie/shoegaze band Warm the Bell, award winning soul-rock outfit Downtown Abby & the Echoes, absurdist neo-soul act Waxing Gibbous, and a years-long residency under the name “Free Anesthesia” as a weekly live collaboration with Snozzberries guitarist Ethan Heller and Empire Strikes Brass drummer Nik Hope in which each show featuring a new themed set every week along with a special guest musician to round out the band.
Notable production credits include 3 albums with folk/americana artist Hope Griffin along with a hauntingly beautiful single composed and performed as a duet called “Carousel”, 2 albums with Americana songstress Samara Jade, the debut EP of Rachel Waterhouse’s neo-soul nom-de-plume “Sister Ivy,” the folk/americana album debuts of Asheville herbalist Josh Fox and Upstate New York balladeer Mike Davis (& the Laughing Buddha Episodes), Vickie Burrick’s “Many a Ship,” and as engineer and bassist on Abby Bryant’s powerful debut album “Not Your Little Girl” which featured Jeff Sipe on drums, John Ginty’s keyboards, and guitarist Bailey Faulkner with whom I co-produced the album. Artists I’ve worked with as an engineer number in the hundreds but a few of my favorites were Shovels and Rope, Rickie Lee Jones, Claude Coleman of Ween, and Col. Bruce Hampton.
I also once played tuba with the Oak Ridge Boys but no record of it exists so you’re just gonna have to take my word.
