I think, in my humble opinion, that art does imitate the life of whichever artists put out the art. But when the artist is put on a sort of pedestal, now his life becomes what should be imitated. The artists have been lifted to the status of gods and their words commandments. The labels, the media infrastructure has the ability to showcase which lifestyles they'd like to be emulated for their own reasons. I firmly believe this. Not because I am a conspiracy theorist, because I am a conflict theorist.

this is dope and i understand they point BUT at the same time a artist should have the right to make any type of music they want to ... not everybody is into concious music i dont expect wiz khalifa or lil wayne to put conciousness in they music they not that type of artist .... there are different artsit for differnt type of rap music you looking for when i want to hear music with substance i listen to lupe i listen to kdot i listen to cole .... when i just wanna chill out and vibe i listen to wiz i listen to drake i listen to the artist that has what im feeling and the artist has that right ....

It's not really the artist fault, in this particular climate of rap. Why would anyone spend time/money on something they know isn't going to get spun anywhere? There are artist akin to the Talib's Mos Defs etc. But thats not what makes money, not what gets radio play. IMO radio has played a gigantic role in the illusion that only a certain style will sell. You can't really fault someone for doing something that is more successful than something else, yet again I blame someone besides the artist. Money talks. If everyone was lining up to buy Brother Ali albums then the whole climate of radio rap would change. We as consumers do have a say in it.
